New Year report

Happy New Year! The members of the Hall Management Committee are very grateful to all of our supporters and users for taking such care with our beautiful, old building, which has been responding to the needs of people who live in our village since 1907. We hope that it will continue to do so for many years hence!

Thanks to all of you who supported our Christmas Hamper Raffle on the Christmas Festive Evening: we raised £300 towards our Windows’ Appeal Fund – more than in any previous year. I am very grateful to everyone who donated so many items and to those who bought raffle tickets on the evening. I am delighted to report that Michael and Shuna Mulholland won the hamper, and they are extremely happy with their prize.

Our fund-raising plans for 2020 include:

Another of Mary’s Soup Lunches, date to be confirmed. Please watch out for posters.

Quiz Evening (with favourite quizmaster Steve Bennett), in the Hall on Saturday 28th March.

Murder Mystery Evening, with delicious supper, on Saturday 18th April.

Please book these events in your diary now.

Our Village Hall AGM is planned for 17th March 2020, at the new time of 2pm. Please do come along and let us hear your thoughts on the future of your Village Hall, or contact me.

The total raised so far for our replacement windows stands at £28,153. We have a few grant applications in the pipeline and are hopeful that they will produce more funding for us. Thank you to everyone who has helped in any way, whether large or small: it all helps and we are very, very grateful for your support and generosity.

Unfortunately, we shall have to raise our hire fees from January 2020: this is due to projected energy cost rises. We have tried to restrict them so that they do not impinge too much on our regular groups and all of them have already been notified of the new rates.

The members of the Management Committee are very grateful to Rita and David who maintain our lovely Hall, Tom Appleby for his careful guidance on maintenance work which needs to be carried out, Mike Ashdown who responds to my urgent ‘phone calls in the event of emergencies, and Tim Russell’s quick response to our electrical emergencies. We (and they) work hard to maintain the Hall premises for your use. I am also very grateful to the members of the Hall Management Committee who respond willingly to all my requests, and work hard to raise the necessary funds to keep our Hall so welcoming and well-maintained.

A reminder that Whist sessions are held in the Hall on the first Thursday in the month, starting at 7pm. We are a very friendly group of players and are delighted to welcome newcomers. No experience is necessary as we provide ‘gentle’ tuition. We play 20 hands and enjoy light refreshments half-way through the evening. There are prizes for the 4 highest scorers (and the lowest scorers) and our next session will be on Thursday 6th February.
