Burwash Village Hall Update
A little ‘normality” returned in December with our Christmas Hamper Raffle in the High Street outside the front of Mount House, by kind permission of Richard and Lynda Maude-Roxby. As many of you know, we have been running the raffle for many years at the Burwash Christmas Festive evenings. You have always shown your support for us at The Bear, and this is the first year that we have been outside in the cold (apart from the early years when I used to be huddled outside what is now the Blacksmith’s Tea and Coffee Shop, with the hamper in my wheelbarrow). I remember it all too well!!
This year we took a fantastic £371: all profit, as the contents of the hamper are donated by our very generous Burwash Village Hall Management Committee members, so there are no overheads. This year the hamper was won by Jane Lloyd of Burwash Common, who, coincidentally is a very great supporter of our Village Hall and all our work. Jane’s blue ticket 304 was drawn by Alice Ransom.
Most of the window replacement work at the Village Hall is now completed, but there is still some painting to be done. The main Oriel windows look wonderful, as do the side windows to the snooker room. We are very grateful to the contractors for their careful work over the past few, difficult months. We are also very thankful for the grants and donations we have received, as well as your generous
support of our fundraising activities. Most of the invoices have been paid and we are now in a position to place the order for the new Hall front doors, part of the project which we put on hold until we knew our financial position in the current ‘climate’. We look forward to eventually being able to welcome our groups back to the Village Hall after a difficult ten months for us all.
My thanks go to David and Rita for keeping our Hall clean and tidy; Michael and Jackie Ashdown for keeping a watch
on the Hall during my enforced isolation due to Covid-19 and shingles, and to Tom Appleby for managing the windows’ project, again when I was unable to leave my home. Hopefully, we shall be able to hold our AGM this year. Please consider whether you may be able to join our Management Committee. I am very happy to provide additional information, if you would like to telephone me.
Our very best wishes to all of you for 2021.
Please carry on taking care and keeping safe!
