Updated Remembrance Day Arrangements across the Parish
Burwash Village Remembrance Day
COVID 19
THERE HAVE BEEN SOME VERY RECENT CHANGES TO THE GOVERNMENT GUIDELINES
BURWASH REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY CEREMONY ON
8 NOVEMBER 2020
To meet the Government and Royal British Legion restrictions the Burwash Parish Council Village Parade has been cancelled this year.
There will still be a closed, ‘tracked & traced’ ceremony at the War Memorial on Sunday 8th November.
Those not involved in this ceremony are asked to observe the Silence at 11.00 from their doorsteps.
This may differ from the situation in other local villages where the War Memorial is in their churchyard and the guidelines are slightly different.
Because of the required restrictions, we ask that you still place your wreaths on the War Memorial before 10.30 on 8th November. The holding wire is in place.
Sadly, the Service in St Bartholomew’s Church following the Act of Remembrance at the War Memorial has had to be cancelled.
ST PHILIP’S BURWASH WEALD ACT OF REMEMBRANCE
SUNDAY 8TH NOVEMBER 2020
The government have issued new guidance and we will be following this:
A ceremony will be made available online, via YouTube, by Saturday evening for the residents of Burwash Weald & Common.
A countdown timer will enable you to pause it at the right time for the 2 minute silence.
The video will be short but will include a reading of the names of the fallen and the singing of the National Anthem at the end.
The link will be made available via the bulletin and via the St Philip’s and the Burwash Community Action Group pages on Facebook.
You are strongly encouraged to use this and to move to your doorstep for the 2 minute silence.
There will be a ceremony at the War Memorial in St Philip’s Churchyard, with parking in the church/pavilion car park.
The ceremony will start at 10.55am.
Government Guidelines are that attendance should be Ministers, Wreath Layers and Veterans only.
However, “members of the public are legally permitted to stop and watch the event as spectators, but event organisers should take reasonable steps to discourage the public from attending….”
Anyone with possible symptoms, or who has been in contact with someone with symptoms, must not attend.
People must stand in groups of one household or two individuals, each group a minimum of 2m apart.
We are required to keep a list of attendees, though we will have the NHS QR code in the Lych Gate.
We will follow a very short version of the usual St Philip’s service.
As the names are read out by attendees, a household bubble will plant the wooden crosses.
We will end with singing the National Anthem.
We will remember them.
