Since 2009, the Burwash-based East Sussex Community Fundraising group has raised awareness and funds for Dementia UK to bring Admiral Nurses to East Sussex. Their efforts have helped raise the profile of Admiral Nursing throughout the region.
Dementia UK provides Admiral Nurses – specialist dementia nurses who give unique, practical and emotional care and support for family carers, as well as the person with dementia. Admiral Nurses provide the specialist dementia support that families need.
Living with dementia can be an incredibly hard and lonely experience. Our specialist support is a lifeline for families caring for someone with dementia. Please help us reach more of them.
  • Dementia can steal a person’s ability to communicate. Admiral Nurses will be there with the skills and techniques that help families stay connected to the person they love.
  • Dementia can pull families apart. Admiral Nurses use their expertise to keep families strong, and keep them together.
  • If someone living with dementia is showing signs of fear or distress, Admiral Nurses work together with families to find ways to manage or solve the problem.

There are currently over 800,000 people living with dementia, and this is expected to increase to one million by 2025. Currently Dementia UK has 184 Admiral Nurses, but we want to increase this number and provide greater reach throughout the UK – so that everyone who needs the support of an Admiral Nurse has one. Dementia UK relies on the generous support of our donors, and couldn’t provide the Admiral Nursing service without them.
